5 minutes with...Sarah Faulkner

Name: Sarah Faulkner

Age: 25

Position within the club: Ladies chairperson (subcommittee within the club)

Former playing honours: have represented the club at county level from u14 up so various achievements with them. Biggest achievement for me by far was our first county title in 2008 and 2009, Ulster runners up 2009, and recent an All-Ireland medal for Donegal 2010

Occupation: Student (part time work Kealey’s bar)

What is on your iPod/CD player? Hmmmmm been that long since I updated it, But I am freak for good country music, so Randy Travis and canny beat auld Johnny Cash. And any Irish.

What is the best club game you have ever played in/been at, and why? Simple. The Day we travelled to County Down, to play Clondoff in Ulster Semi-final, we went down there as the big underdogs and Davy words were to me before the match was “Sarah don’t do anything stupid” that game we were firing on all cylinders and we give away a penalty and Davy shouted me to go in nets, I somehow managed to save it which then made me really believe we would win this game. In the second half with 15 minutes to go I deid a stupid tackle and got sinned binned for 10 minutes but thank god the girls really worked hard and we managed to win the game Clondoff 08 Moville 4-8

What is your party piece? Mmmm apart from my groovy (and I mean groovy) dance moves, I rattle out an auld tune now and again west awake being mainly my party piece.

Who is the person in GAA you admire the most, and why? Apart from Daddy ha I would have to say Paídí O Se best corner back ever to grace the game, his skill, strength and speed and determination and most of all his roguery if I had half of all them, trust me, I would be extremely happy .

What is your earliest GAA memory? Attempting to play U12 boys county A final with a broken wrist (Judge Mc Bride and my Father Philip were coaches at time)

What is your favourite TV Show/Movie? Oh god the list could go on an on but I think Murder she wrote has to be up can’t beat a bit of Jessica. Ohh and CSI all of them including NCIS. Best movie of all time without a doubt is Million Dollar Baby.

Who would you invite to a dinner party at your home? Hmmm well the Post man for one as he could provide us all with the juicy gossip, Monina O’Prey for keeping things going and her husband Seamus just to keep tabs on her, and if he were living Johnny Cash for entertainment, Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh for good story telling, and Clint Eastwood think that’s it.

When I was younger I wanted to be…? Wanted join the Mighty Ducks wanted really to do the flying V.

What is your favourite ground to play at? Apart from Carrick field can’t really think; I love playing at home.

Who is the worst trainer? Supposedly I am the worst so I will have to go with that, can’t be contradicting the previous ones.

Who is your sporting hero (any sport) and why? Jim Stynes, former Dublin player who won an minor tile and at 18 moved to Australia and he joined Melbourne Aussie football, who died at the age of 45 from cancer. He played a record 244 games with Melbournee, and believed to be one of the very best to grace the game, he was first ever non-Australian to win the Brownlow medal..

What would you change about the game currently? More contact….Joking haha…Nothing really; I love the rules in ladies, including the Sin Bin.

Who would you draft into the Moville Senior Men’s/Ladies teams if there was a transfer window? Personally I think the Ladies need nobody we have a good squad of determined ladies, and if anything players should be looking to join us haha. As for the men haven’t really seen them much last season but maybe get Sean O’Hare back, oh and if they need us ladies to show them to play be more and willing to help out haha

What is the most difficult game/opponent/team you have ever encountered as a player or spectator? Every game is difficult and every forward has a difficult still to catch onto, but I can say Catriona Connelly for Donaghmone Ladies in the Ulster final and Replay 2008 unreal forward could create a score from nothing.

Who has been your biggest influence? Mmmm throughout the years there have been many but I think mainly Séan Lynch from Muff taught me different things to speed up my game. Kenny Griffin the Donegal manager was the first to tell me I was a back (still believe am a forward haha right Skelly) but mostly Anthony Doogan I have been under him a long time and he is a man with few words but when he took time out to show you something or to tell you something you took it on board, he curved my attitude towards the game and help change my style of football and most importantly he believed in me even when I did something stupid which can happen sometimes during a match.

If you were not involved in the GAA, what would you be doing instead?  Having a life haha and not have people thinking am been battered with all the bruises and marks….but I really can’t imagine myself without GAA and without been apart of Moville GAA.

Do you have any pre-match rituals or superstitions? I eat definitely before game although Davy Jack tried to change that, I love food. But no ritual, but am superstitious a wee bi;t it’s silly but I have been wearing the same socks for our clubs since 2008 until mammy eventually burned them last year.

Now I have a nice new pair to wear for the next 4 to 5 years (don’t worry they are washed every time)

What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given? I think the best was from my sister, play every game like it your last ever, protect your teammates and never ever give up no matter what the score line and always give 100%. Think that’s what I try to achieve every game.

Name a player within the club as ‘one to watch’ for the next 12 months: there all great in their own rights but, I think Danielle Mc Dermott, Realtin Mc Ehlinney  is one to watch on the ladies side and on the boys/men side of things possible young Ciaran Diver and Tony mc Clenaghan.
